The WNBA Stunt Is a Distraction | Vaccine Myths & Bruce vs a Bike Ep. 334
Summary
A viral WNBA stunt has everybody arguing about transgender athletes. But Bruce Anthony and J. Aundrea think everybody may be staring at the wrong fight.
On this episode of Unsolicited Perspectives, Bruce and Jay break down the controversy of former NBA players saying they want to enter the WNBA, the debate over transgender athletes, and why the much bigger story may be what is happening with Title IX and women's college athletics. The conversation moves from manufactured outrage to the opportunities Title IX created for generations of women, and what could happen if those protections are rolled back.
Then it turns to Trump, RFK Jr., childhood vaccines and autism. Bruce and Jay dig into the return of the vaccine-autism claim, why increased autism diagnoses do not automatically mean increased incidence, and the complicated difference between distrusting science and distrusting how medicine has historically been applied, especially within Black communities.
And after all that heavy conversation, Bruce decides to demonstrate questionable judgment in real time. A bike-share app literally tells him not to take the bike. Bruce takes the bike anyway. What follows is a slow-motion lesson in hubris that he somehow keeps convincing himself is going according to plan.
Different stories, same lesson: sometimes the loudest thing in front of you is keeping you from noticing what actually matters.
