Fake NFL Star, AI Romance Scams & The Dating Games We Play
Summary
Some weeks the whole world feels like one big hustle, and this one leans all the way in. Bruce and his sister open on the messy state of modern dating, the lost art of the first date, and a debate about whether a relationship that ended was ever really a failure. Then the conversation follows the money into the strange new world of digital scams, where Daejon Love allegedly posed as a professional football player and leaned on artificial intelligence to make the whole fantasy look real, and where an Atlanta hustler built an entire brand around selling the dream of easy fraud. Along the way the siblings dig into fake wealth, blue check credibility, romance traps, and the uncomfortable question sitting underneath all of it. In a world where a photo, a search result, or a bank balance can be manufactured, how do you actually know what is real anymore? It is funny, it is sharp, and it just might change the way you look at your feed. Pull up a seat for another round.

[00:00:55] And if you’ve been paying attention to the news, you know what we about to talk about. But that’s enough of the intro. Let’s get to the show
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:02] What up, sis?
Jay Aundrea: What up, brother?
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:12] I can’t call it, I can’t call it. I had an interesting conversation
Jay Aundrea: [00:01:18] Okay
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:19] with somebody the other day, and I’m gonna let a little bit of my personal life come out on this episode.
Jay Aundrea: [00:01:27] It’s rare, but it happens
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:28] rare, but this happens. A- and, and we’ve talked about this subject before,
Jay Aundrea: [00:01:34] Okay
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:36] but I have a different angle that I wanna hit on it.
Jay Aundrea: [00:01:41] Sure. Okay
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:42] So I had a friend who introduced me to her friend
Jay Aundrea: [00:01:46] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:47] and hook us up,
Jay Aundrea: [00:01:49] a, make a connection.
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:51] a love connection, right?
Jay Aundrea: [00:01:52] Right
Bruce Anthony: [00:01:53] And the connection didn’t connect. Like, it was— the, the, the physical attractiveness was there. The physical chemistry was there. Uh, you could tell that we only hung out a couple times. You could tell that, like, immediately, like, okay, we feeling each other physically.
[00:02:09] But as we got to talk to
The Setup Date That Fizzled: Great Chemistry, No Real Future
Bruce Anthony: [00:02:12] each other more, there weren’t anything like, I think this person is horrible, or this person thinks I’m horrible.
Jay Aundrea: [00:02:18] It just wasn’t clicking
Bruce Anthony: [00:02:19] it’s just not gonna— it’s not going to long-term click, right? And I’m at an age now, ain’t no re- I, I done did enough short-term situationships, don’t need to do it
Jay Aundrea: [00:02:28] Yeah, we’re done. We’re done with those
Bruce Anthony: [00:02:30] So I backed away, right?
[00:02:32] I didn’t feel like there needed to be a conversation after only really hanging out with the person twice.
Jay Aundrea: [00:02:37] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:02:38] So just, you know, we’re still friendly, just we don’t hang out.
Jay Aundrea: [00:02:43] You’re right
Bruce Anthony: [00:02:44] So s- my friend that introduced us hit me up the other day and was like, “I got another f- friend I wanna introduce you to.”
Jay Aundrea: Listen. Listen. All
Bruce Anthony: [00:02:50] like, “We’re gonna try this again when the last one didn’t work out, but okay. All right.” Uh, and, and my friend said that the other woman that she introduced me to was basically like, yeah, he wasn’t… I forget what the exact term was, but that he wasn’t a planner, didn’t make plans, didn’t, didn’t, didn’t show,
Jay Aundrea: [00:03:12] is the first woman.
Bruce Anthony: [00:03:13] This is the first woman, that I didn’t show, um, not aggression,
Jay Aundrea: [00:03:17] Initiative, but just like you, you didn’t pursue. You didn’t pursue.
Bruce Anthony: [00:03:21] like I didn’t pursue.
[00:03:23] And then I was like, oh, okay. I, I never said anything ‘cause this person, my friend, we’re a mutual friend, so I didn’t say anything. I was just like, okay, whatever. Uh, the reason why we didn’t talk, I just said things didn’t work out. But this person wanted to give sort of specifics and kind of put the blame on me.
[00:03:41] I felt a little type of way about it ‘cause I don’t want dirt on my name out there in the streets. But ultimately, I don’t care.
Jay Aundrea: [00:03:49] Yes
Bruce Anthony: [00:03:50] So
Do Men Lack Initiative In Dating? Bruce Sets The Record Straight: 🙋🔥💬
Bruce Anthony: [00:03:51] my friend, when relaying this message to me, I was like, “Oh, okay.” And then my friend said, “What’s wrong with you guys and dating? It’s like nobody is showing initiative. Nobody is making plans.”
[00:04:03] I said, “Hold on. That’s not true.” Men absolutely do those things
Jay Aundrea: Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:04:09] when they’re interested in the woman.
Jay Aundrea: [00:04:11] Right
Bruce Anthony: [00:04:13] A- and, and women are out there, it— because my friend was like, “Oh.” And I was like, women are out there thinking that men are just lazy and, and granted, sometimes men are, right?
Jay Aundrea: [00:04:24] some, some of y’all are.
Bruce Anthony: [00:04:26] But also when we actually care, oh, we’ll go to the ends of the earth for that person.
[00:04:33] We’ll do whatever they wanna do. We’ll fly ‘em out on trips. Like we’ll do, we’ll plan, we’ll do extravagant things. Just look at proposals that men do. Like men will absolutely can plan and will do.
Jay Aundrea: [00:04:46] There was a whole movie called “He’s Just Not That Into You,”
Bruce Anthony: [00:04:50] Yeah.
Jay Aundrea: [00:04:51] and, and women still have such difficulty with this. Um, I don’t know why
Bruce Anthony: [00:05:00] Um, ‘cause people want what they want,
Jay Aundrea: [00:05:03] I guess
Bruce Anthony: [00:05:04] people want what they want. And then people create these fantasies in their… You got fantasies in your head. They create these fantasies in their head, and then they want, they’re like, “This is the way it should be.” Uh, and I’m not saying it’s just women. I’m saying majority of the time it
Jay Aundrea: [00:05:19] No, it’s definitely— No, let me tell you, here’s where it comes in, here’s where it’s men.
Bruce Anthony: [00:05:25] Okay.
Jay Aundrea: [00:05:26] Rejection
Bruce Anthony: [00:05:28] Mm, mm-hmm
Jay Aundrea: [00:05:29] not being able to accept that and still, like, pursuing when it’s clear. It’s like, “Hey, I don’t, I don’t really see you like that.” “I don’t understand. I’m a good guy. I’m a g-” You know, that’s when it comes into, and I’m like, okay, so everybody’s out here delulu
Bruce Anthony: [00:05:43] Yeah. Okay, that’s true. Um, I also said to my friend, I was like, “This is just generally speaking. This isn’t talking about the particular situation that she set me up with.”
Jay Aundrea: [00:05:55] Mm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:05:57] Even though it was. Um, and she might hear this, but okay, whatever. Uh, it is what it is. I’m 46 years old. I don’t really give a damn if, uh…
Jay Aundrea: [00:06:06] at this point,
Bruce Anthony: [00:06:07] Pump faking, and I’ve said this before,
Jay Aundrea: Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:06:10] extremely important.
Jay Aundrea: Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:06:12] For
The Pump Fake, First Dates And Who Should Really Pay The Bill: 💳🍴😏
Bruce Anthony: [00:06:13] those people who don’t understand what pump faking is, pump faking is when the bill comes to the table, the woman acts like she might split with or she’s going into her pocket to insinuate that they might go halfsies. Now, I understand that men out here are saying, “Cool.”
[00:06:30] Once again, if that man says, “Cool
Jay Aundrea: [00:06:33] Pay that bill and never call him again.
Bruce Anthony: [00:06:35] Yeah, that man, yeah, yeah. Like, like we know if even if we are broke, like we know what we have when we go out with y’all, and we might, we might just be like, “All right, I’m just not gonna order a whole lot. She can get whatever she wants.” That’s what we do if we like somebody, we truly like somebody. If we like, “Yeah, we just gonna split,” I’m talking about like the first couple of dates, not when y’all been together.
[00:06:56] When y’all been together,
Jay Aundrea: [00:06:58] It’s usually— It should be a mixed bag of like who pays
Bruce Anthony: [00:07:01] yes. But I’m talking about like the first couple of dates. First of all, I’m old school. Men always pay on the first date, and any date after that, if you’ve asked her out, pay the bill
Jay Aundrea: [00:07:11] Yeah, it, it’s really, it really should be the person who asked
Bruce Anthony: [00:07:15] Should be. Should be.
Jay Aundrea: [00:07:17] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:07:18] But my friend was like, who’s from a different country, was like, “American men are different because men overseas, if women, like, offer to pay, they, they really get offended.” And I was like, “Okay, cool. You in America. Been here for a long time. Uh, w- we’re not gonna get offended. We’re looking for that.
[00:07:41] As a matter of fact, that ick that you get when having to split the check on the first date is the same ick that we get when the woman doesn’t pop fake.”
Jay Aundrea: Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:07:50] And my friend was like, “Well, I never, I never reach for my bill on the first date.” I was like, “Mm. You might be having a lot of first dates because of that.”
[00:07:58] Because I will give somebody the benefit of the doubt on the first date
Jay Aundrea: Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:08:03] anxiety, y- you’re nervous, things are going on
Jay Aundrea: [00:08:07] And you, and you also don’t want to, like, emasculate
Bruce Anthony: [00:08:11] I understand
Jay Aundrea: [00:08:13] by saying, “We can split it.” You know, ‘cause then it’s like, “What, you think I ain’t got it?” Like, so it’s, it’s c- it can be difficult to navigate that situation because you don’t wanna insult the other person, um, but you also don’t wanna just assume that it’s on them.
Bruce Anthony: [00:08:34] I’m gonna give women a
A Step By Step Tutorial For The Perfect First Date Pump Fake: 👜✅😬
Bruce Anthony: [00:08:35] tutorial on how to do the proper pump fake because I, I’ve heard women’s responses just like what you just gave me, and that is valid.
Jay Aundrea: [00:08:44] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:08:45] So all you have to do is silently, when the bill drops, just start rummaging around in your purse or your bag or something.
Jay Aundrea: [00:08:56] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:08:57] That’s all you really have to do.
[00:08:59] Might even go so far as to pull out your wallet. If he hadn’t said, “Hey, uh, don’t worry about it,” ‘cause he might just be focused on the bill and not seeing what you’re doing. You don’t have to say anything. The saying something does— it can, I guess, for some men emasculate them, right? But it’s the movement.
[00:09:18] It’s, it’s, it’s a pump fake. You know, it’s just like a basketball. You got the basketball, you fake it in one direction
Jay Aundrea: [00:09:25] please explain to people what a actual pump
Bruce Anthony: [00:09:27] A pump fake is you got the ball in your hands and you fake the ball in one direction like you’re going in that direction, but you’re not. It’s a fake, right? Pump fake. Just act like you’re moving towards your purse.
[00:09:41] He’s gonna be like, “Hey, hey, hey. No, no, no. Don’t wor- like this is on me. I, I wanted to take you out.” That’s, for, for men out there, that’s your response. You now… It’s a little d- it’s a little dance. It’s a little dance. Dating is all about little dances, right? That’s all you gotta do. Women, you ain’t gotta say
Jay Aundrea: [00:10:00] better than me ‘cause I’d be, ‘cause y’all better than me ‘cause I’d be at the table, as soon as that bill come, I’d be like, “You got this, right?”
Bruce Anthony: [00:10:08] Well, yeah. As we always say, you’re the son our father always wanted. Anyway, uh,
Jay Aundrea: [00:10:18] And am.
Bruce Anthony: [00:10:19] a- a- yeah, and, uh, and, um, yeah. So, and I was explaining that to her, and I was like, “Yo, this is, this is a thing.” J- women have these icks out there, right? Men gotta be a certain height. They gotta, they gotta carry themselves a certain way.
[00:10:34] And I’m not saying this about all women, but when men have icks, they wanna have issues with the icks. Look, y’all got yours. We got ours. It’s okay. And if things don’t align, fine. I’ve had way more relationships and situations and dates that didn’t work out than actually did
Jay Aundrea: [00:10:55] Yeah, ’
Is Every Ended Relationship Truly A Failure? The Siblings Clash: 💔🥊😤
Jay Aundrea: [00:10:56] cause that’s the scen- that’s, that’s how it works. Like, ideally, in an ideal world, not to say that I subscribe to this, but ideally, uh, you’re with one person until you die. So that means all the rest of your relationships are failures, that’s just
Bruce Anthony: [00:11:14] mm. No, all your other re— I don’t, I don’t like the word failure. All
[00:11:17] your other relationships end. Yeah, they end
Jay Aundrea: [00:11:20] uh, well, that makes them a failure, right?
[00:11:22] Because the point of a, the point of a relationship ultimately, like we’re looking for that person that we’re supposed to spend our life with, so if it doesn’t end up that way, then it didn’t hit the goal, which means…
Bruce Anthony: [00:11:34] Oh, see, I, see, I think
Jay Aundrea: [00:11:36] you come from— See, you come from a generation where they get participation trophies.
[00:11:41] Some- it’s either first place
Bruce Anthony: [00:11:43] I don’t get it. No, I don’t. I, I am the generation where you actually had to earn… There was no participation trophies. That’s your generation.
Jay Aundrea: [00:11:51] that’s my
Bruce Anthony: [00:11:52] Yeah, that’s not my generation.
Jay Aundrea: [00:11:54] but it’s like you either won or you lost. Like that’s, you either hit the mark or you didn’t. And so like most of your relationships are not going to work out.
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:06] uh, uh, are, are going to end. But, but all relationships end, all of them
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:13] Yeah, ideally when, when one of you dies
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:15] But, uh,
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:16] that’s what
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:17] okay.
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:18] hope is
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:19] I, I don’t like the term failure because it means that, uh, you failed, therefore nothing was gained from being in it, and
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:28] No, you learn a lot from failure
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:32] Okay.
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:33] You do learn a lot from
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:34] You got… This is true. This is true. I just don’t like the, I don’t like the term
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:39] You don’t like the negative connotation of
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:41] I don’t like it
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:42] look at the word failure, it just means that you didn’t succeed. And like yeah, we can learn
Bruce Anthony: [00:12:48] But not everybody join- gets into a situation to be like, “I want this to be my forever.” Sometimes people get into a situation and be like, “I want this to be my right now.” And then in that
[00:12:57] sense,
Jay Aundrea: [00:12:58] and I would say that’s nine, nine times out of 10, that is what the— that is the intent. I’m saying, and ideally, ideally most of your 99.99999% of relationships are not gonna work out because the i- the hope is that you just have the one. Uh, now is that a reality? No.
Bruce Anthony: [00:13:20] Mm-mm. I’ve had many relationships that have ended, but I’ve learned a lot from them. So yeah, I-
Jay Aundrea: [00:13:29] learn, I still think you learn, I honestly think you learn more from your failures than you do from your
Bruce Anthony: [00:13:34] Oh, absolutely. I would throw this down and be like, “Hey everybody, leave your comment about what you think about my situation.” But I’m gonna be real honest with you, you can. I don’t really give a shit. I, I’ll just be real honest, I don’t care. Like, look,
Jay Aundrea: [00:13:47] Oh,
Bruce Anthony: [00:13:48] when my-
Jay Aundrea: [00:13:49] is the ultimate question whether you should go out with the second person?
Bruce Anthony: [00:13:52] Well, no. So when I broke it down for my friend, I was like, “Oh, you’re having reservations in introducing me to your second friend, aren’t you?” She’s like, “Honestly, yep.” And I was like, “Cool, we— You ain’t got to.”
Jay Aundrea: [00:14:02] you don’t have
Bruce Anthony: [00:14:03] I’m not d- knocking down the doors to be introduced to people. Let’s be honest, ladies and gentlemen, I’m a decent-looking dude.
[00:14:13] Odds are I could walk out there on the street and meet somebody. You know how I know this to be true? ‘Cause this happens thousands of times, okay? It, it is not hard for me to meet people. I am a personable person, even though I’m an introvert. Don’t ask me to explain it, it just is what it is. So I can meet people, and I don’t have no problem meeting women.
[00:14:33] I don’t need nobody to set me up. So if my friend doesn’t wanna set me up, okay. Don’t really care.
Jay Aundrea: [00:14:40] her track record is not that great anyway,
Bruce Anthony: [00:14:42] No, she ha- it was one for one, and, and, and she wasn’t wrong in that the personalities mixed, the physical attractiveness was there, it just, I knew that, okay, our, our— what we
Jay Aundrea: [00:14:59] one to Spark
Bruce Anthony: [00:15:00] what… Yeah. Uh, uh, w- what we want out of life is, it— that’s what I look at nowadays.
[00:15:06] What, what i- what
Chasing Money Versus Staying A True Artist Who Can’t Be Bought: 🎨💰🚫
Bruce Anthony: [00:15:07] is it that you want out of life? And I’m not somebody, quite frankly, not to say this person is, but I’m just generally speaking, I’m not somebody who really gives a damn about money. Not in the standpoint where I’m chasing money.
Jay Aundrea: [00:15:21] Right
Bruce Anthony: [00:15:23] I, I feel like, this is just my personal opinion, when people chase money, they— their morals are up for sale.
[00:15:34] Their principles and morals are up for sale
Jay Aundrea: [00:15:37] Certainly the dignity is, especially if you work in corporate
Bruce Anthony: [00:15:41] Uh, okay. And, and I think the heart of me, I truly am an artist, right? Like that’s, that’s what I am. I’m a artist. So there’s no amount of money that you could put on my art that would make me suppress my art to form it to what you want it to be, where there’s a lot of people out there that will do that all the time.
[00:16:08] Um, and I’m just not…
Jay Aundrea: You can’t be bought. You can’t be bought
Bruce Anthony: [00:16:11] Yeah, somebody said something crazy to me one time, and it was like homosexual acts, right? And it was, um, like, “If somebody paid you this amount of money, would you do it? This amount of money, would you do it?” And I’m like, “I’m not gay. No, I, I don’t. I— No, there’s no amount of money. There’s no amount of money.”
[00:16:28] Like, I’m not gay. Like if I was a vegetarian or vegan, there’s no amount of money that you could pay me to eat meat.
Jay Aundrea: Right
Bruce Anthony: [00:16:35] You know, like it’s just, like I stand on what I stand on. Right or wrong, I’m a principle person. I stand on what I stand on. So, um, no, the reason why I brought all this up was really the pump faking thing, and that my friend was just like, “I didn’t never even heard of it, never even, like thought of that.”
[00:16:52] And I was like, “Come on now, we, like we’re up here in age. Everybody should know this by now.” Just a general, it’s a, it’s a common courtesy, polite thing
Jay Aundrea: [00:17:02] Yeah, we’re not kids anymore. We— Come on now
Bruce Anthony: [00:17:06] It’s like when you go to a office party, you are— you say hello to everybody, even if, even though you don’t like Sarah
Jay Aundrea: [00:17:15] I can’t stand Sarah.
Bruce Anthony: [00:17:18] But you gonna say hello
Jay Aundrea: [00:17:19] I’ma say, “Hey, girl.
Bruce Anthony: [00:17:22] You got to fake it till you
Jay Aundrea: [00:17:23] doing? Mm-hmm. How’d the… What’s, what about your cat? Mm. Mm-hmm. It was acting like a cat? Okay. Yeah.

Bruce Anthony: [00:17:33] acting like a cat. O- one quick thing before we get out of here. Completely different topic. We’re only gonna spend two or three minutes on it. That’s it, okay?
Jay Aundrea: [00:17:41] Okay. Okay
Bruce Anthony: [00:17:44] Dru Hill or Jagged Edge? If they did a
Jay Aundrea: [00:17:46] Hill. Drew Hill
Bruce Anthony: [00:17:48] Okay, so my friend, same age as you, was like, “Dru Hill would win, but I’m so much of a Jagged Edge fan, I would want them to win, but Dru Hill would win.”
[00:18:01] And then I was thinking to myself, I don’t even think it’s close. Dru Hill has too many hits. It seemed like every song they came out with was a hit
Jay Aundrea: [00:18:12] And, and as long as they have the silky smooth vocals of Jaz and the, uh, what’s the, what’s, what’s my mans from Jodeci? The, the KCS-esque vocals
Bruce Anthony: [00:18:26] the raspiness of
Cisco
Jay Aundrea: [00:18:27] of Sisqó. Um, yeah, you just… I’m sorry. Here’s the thing, and it’s not that I’m not a Jagged Edge fan. I 100% am. Every single summer since this song came out, you will see me riding around the city with all my windows down and my moonroof open playing “Where The Party At,”
Bruce Anthony: [00:18:46] Yeah.
Jay Aundrea: [00:18:47] because it’s just a great summer song.
[00:18:49] I play “Summertime,” Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff, and then I play “Where The Party At.” That’s, those are my two summertime songs, so it’s not like I’m not a fan, but come on. Come on.
Bruce Anthony: [00:19:03] Yeah, I mean, it’s Dru Hill.
Jay Aundrea: [00:19:05] Soon as they break out beauty, sleeping in my bed, uh, uh, the five steps. Like, come on. Come on, man. It’s Dru Hill
Bruce Anthony: [00:19:13] Uh, what is, what is my favorite song from Dru Hill? Um Never Make a Promise is one of my favorites.
Jay Aundrea: [00:19:22] That’s a good one. That’s a good one
Bruce Anthony: [00:19:24] we’re not gonna fall down this rabbit hole, but I just wanted to get your, I just wanted to get your thoughts on it ‘cause Dru Hill. And they only had— They had three albums, but they really only had two.
Jay Aundrea: [00:19:35] Yes.
Bruce Anthony: [00:19:36] really only
Jay Aundrea: [00:19:37] ‘cause that third album, I don’t know if
Bruce Anthony: [00:19:39] got one jam on that third album. That, that first song on that third album is great, but it was too much infighting and, uh, Woody had left and came back, and Jazz was in rehab, and
[00:19:51] It was all, types
Jay Aundrea: [00:19:52] it was all kind of things going on. But, um, uh, yeah, sorry, I’m looking over their top hits and fan favorites now. It’s like, nope, come on
Bruce Anthony: [00:20:02] “These Are the Times” is also one of my favorite songs
Jay Aundrea: [00:20:05] These Are the Times, Tell Me, How Deep Is Your Love, Never Make a Promise, In My Bed, We Not Making Love No More from the Soul Food soundtrack. You Are Everything, that
Bruce Anthony: [00:20:17] You Are Everything remix is even better. The remix is even better, yes
Jay Aundrea: [00:20:22] I mean, come on. Five Steps, Beauty, come on.
Bruce Anthony: [00:20:25] Yeah, I mean, Jagged Edge got some hits, but, uh, just not on Dru Hill’s. But that’s our just our little music minute. But I said something earlier. I said fake it until you make it. And boy, oh boy, do these next two segments really emphasize people faking it until they kinda made it.
Bruce Anthony: [00:20:45] What if the person you thought you were googling was the person that was actually lying to you? The FBI says Dejon or Dejon or whatever the boy’s name is Love spent four years pretending to be a San Francisco 49er wide receiver, and prosecutors say he didn’t do it alone. The allege— He, they allege he and an 18-year-old accomplice used dating apps to scam more than two dozen women out of roughly $1.3 million.
[00:21:23] But here’s where it gets real crazy. Some of the women got suspicious. Uh, they did what you’re supposed to do. They googled him, and Google said he was real. AI said that he was real, so this man has allegedly took the lie, got the machine to back up the lie, and then screenshotted the machine’s answer and sent it back to the victims as proof.
Jay Aundrea: [00:21:44] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:21:45] about that for a second. The thing these women used to fact-check the scam became part of the scam. Now, everything here is alleged, so I
DaeJon Love: The Fake NFL Star Who Turned AI Into His Accomplice
Bruce Anthony: [00:21:54] wanna just focus on the fact that Mr. Dejon Love has not been convicted of anything yet. But if the prosecutors are right, we’re not just talking about a romance scam.
[00:22:04] We’re talking about a scammer who figured out how to make AI his accomplice. Now, Jay, you hit me up when we did the after-hours like, “We didn’t talk about this.” I said, “Don’t worry. It is all the second segment of the main show,” because we had to talk about this. It’s been all on social media, the guy that pretended to be an NFL wide receiver scamming women out of money.
[00:22:25] You said you had a lot of things to, to talk about about this. Before I even get to the key facts, I’m gonna just let you say your piece on all of this that was going on
Jay Aundrea: [00:22:36] Well, my very
Google Is A Search Engine Not Proof: Verify Every Source First
Jay Aundrea: [00:22:37] first thing is to— and I think this, this, like the plot gets lost a little, a little bit because it has AI built in, but Google is a search engine.
Bruce Anthony: [00:22:50] Mm-hmm.
Jay Aundrea: [00:22:52] It’s not a answer machine. You’re supposed to then click the links that pop up, one of which would’ve been the official nfl.com San Francisco 49ers roster, and you look up number seven, look up number seven, and you notice that it’s not DeJon Love.
[00:23:15] Some of y’all stop at the Google,
Bruce Anthony: [00:23:17] Mm-hmm.
Jay Aundrea: [00:23:18] and you think that that’s the end of the search. No, that’s the search engine. You have to then click the links and, and continue to do so. Some of y’all be like, “I did my research.” No, you didn’t, ‘cause you never clicked a link to verify what the AI is saying. The AI is going to just— A-again, it’s not thinking.
[00:23:45] It is a model that predicts the next word, right? So it is going to scrape the internet, and it’s gonna find him perpetrating, and it’ll say, “Yes, this person is real, and he is a member of the San Francisco 49ers.” Why? Because he’s put that on the internet.
Bruce Anthony: [00:24:04] Mm-hmm.
Jay Aundrea: [00:24:05] You gotta then look up the roster. Some of y’all don’t take that extra step to verify.
[00:24:14] You say the, the, the phrase is trust but verify. You got to verify, and that’s where some of y’all fall short, ‘cause ain’t no way. In 22— Here’s how you know he was scamming the ladies that’s not really, um, chasing ballplayers, ‘cause there’s ladies that are out there that are chasing ballplayers. And let me tell you something about these ladies.
[00:24:40] They know your stats. They know your net worth. They know who you dated, who your mama is, your favorite color, what kind of food you like. Like, those ladies are already— They know who the players are, so that’s how I know he didn’t target ladies that are actually about that life. That’s number one. Number two, y’all- Got to be more discerning. Okay? You just gotta be. You just gotta be. And the thing of, the thing of it is, is that our own egos sometimes will have us believe in BS because it feeds our ego. It feeds your ego to s- to say, “A NFL wide receiver is in my DMs.” That’s feeding your ego, but it’s also not true. You need to step outside of yourself and do some due diligence and be a little bit more discerning, ’ cause it ain’t that many players in the NFL.
[00:25:48] And then if you take out the ones that’s already dating someone-
Bruce Anthony: [00:25:52] a lot of NFL players
Jay Aundrea: [00:25:54] I mean, players
Bruce Anthony: [00:25:58] He could be, he could still be a wide receiver and he might not get on the field, but he’s still an NFL wide receiver
Jay Aundrea: [00:26:05] There, it ain’t like there’s millions of them,
Bruce Anthony: [00:26:07] It’s 55 for 32 teams. That’s over 150
Jay Aundrea: [00:26:12] That’s not a lot
Bruce Anthony: [00:26:13] Actually, that number is really wrong. I believe it’s 1,500.
Jay Aundrea: [00:26:18] definitely wrong. But 1,500 isn’t— Think about it, okay? 1,500. Cut out the ones that’s already dating. Cut out the ones that are married. Then you got a handful, you got a couple hundred pe- Now cut out the ones that’s way too damn young for y’all. The, the, the freshies out the box. Them, them is, they too young for y’all, okay?
[00:26:39] Okay, so you got a limited pool and you think he in your DMs? Just the odds of it is just very slim.
Bruce Anthony: [00:26:52] Mm-hmm.
Jay Aundrea: [00:26:53] You know? That’s, that’s my thing. And if somebody asks you for money, even if they promise to send you back more, and even if they actually do it the first time, if somebody’s asking you for money, it’s a scam
Inside The Full 1.3 Million Dollar Fake 49ers Romance Scam Case: 💸📱🚔
Bruce Anthony: [00:27:11] His was a little bit more sophisticated than just straight up asking them for money. So he’s 35 years old. He’s got an alleged accomplice, uh, Taylor Chen, who’s 18, who played his financial advisor. Most, uh, most victims, uh, were found on dating apps, and he’s been doing this since February 2022. He posed as a 49ers wide receiver, worn number seven.
[00:27:34] Uh, also a real estate investor. He had 26 victims that have been identified. The FB- FBI believes that there are more. Like I said, roughly $1.3 million taken, no victim ever paid back. So he wasn’t giving that money back. Victims across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California. He faked bank balances with phone apps.
[00:27:54] Once showed that he had $30 million. Chen joined three-way FaceTime calls showing fake gains, told victims to take out personal loans when cash ran dry, and blocked victims once the money stopped coming in. Now, how he faked the algorithm, how he faked AI, was flooding the internet with these videos that I know y’all have seen with him running on the beach with his helmet on.
[00:28:25] No NFL player wears their helmet
Jay Aundrea: [00:28:29] The game day helmet That’s supposed to be in your locker. Your game day helmet and you on the beach and that— Maybe ‘cause I watch football, b- like I’m watching, like I’m looking through all these videos that he’s put, I’m looking at it
Bruce Anthony: [00:28:34] And yes
Jay Aundrea: [00:28:48] ‘cause I am deeply invested in this kind of scam because I don’t under- ever understand how it actually happens. Like, looked fake
Ego, Trophies And Why Flashing Fake Wealth Is A Huge Red Flag: 🚩💎🎭
Bruce Anthony: [00:29:01] Yes. I mean, it, it looks fake because we knew it, right? But like you said, you brought up something that I didn’t even think about is ego. Side story, I was once dating a fitness influencer. She was bad. She’s a fitness influencer, right? I was excited for the fact that I was dating this badass fitness influencer.
[00:29:23] Horrible person. One, one of the worst people that I’ve ever met in my entire life, okay? Well, to me. Just very self-centered, superficial, and toxic. And, but I kicked it for longer than I should have because I liked that trophy on my arm. So it, it stroked my ego. They want me, when I know all these other dudes is in their DM.
[00:29:47] Horrible person. This person was actually real. But this person to them is real because they get them on FaceTime. They showing— He’s showing the bank accounts. He’s showing pictures in front of a McLaren and a Lamborghini in the video just flaunting. He’s flaunting that life. He’s try-
Jay Aundrea: [00:30:05] You can rent those.
Bruce Anthony: [00:30:07] You can. It costs money, though.
Jay Aundrea: [00:30:09] It costs money, money that he’s getting from them. He got
Bruce Anthony: [00:30:13] Yeah
Jay Aundrea: [00:30:14] He g- he scams one to get the money to rent the stuff so he can scam other people. First, listen, if somebody is giving you a bunch of evidence that they got something, just know they ain’t got it. Just know that they don’t actually have it. Because if you gotta, “Oh, let me show you my, um, bank app, and I got, I’ll show you, uh, these are my gains and all the da-da-da, my financial gains and blah, blah, blah, blah,” that’s letting me know you ain’t got a dime. Because why are you working so hard to prove to me that you got money? Either
Bruce Anthony: [00:30:54] people will flash. I mean, I was— I, my favorite rap group in the, in the earl- in the late ’90s, early 2000s was the Big Timers, and all they did— I had, I wore two giant diamonds in my ears, two watches, and a thick chain frontin’ like I had that type of money. I did not
Jay Aundrea: [00:31:14] their name was literally Big Timers. Like that, that was the whole persona was excess,
Bruce Anthony: [00:31:20] Mm-hmm
Jay Aundrea: [00:31:21] right? And showing that you big time. That’s, that’s diff- this is d- If somebody is showing you all these receipts to prove that they got money, it means they don’t have it. Because if they actually had money, you would see the wealth on them. You would
Bruce Anthony: [00:31:40] People with money, you could just tell that they got money. Even if they dressed real bummy, they, they got the, they got that I got money air about
Jay Aundrea: [00:31:48] Their eyes are all clear, you know? Like they don’t have— they ain’t stressed, no bags under their eyes. They just kind of whistle at random moments, like just whistle while
Bruce Anthony: [00:31:59] Skipping down the street
Jay Aundrea: [00:32:00] skipping. Every day looks sunny. You know, you could tell people with money. They, they’re attractive even though they’re really not, you know?
[00:32:09] Like it’s, you could just tell. They give off a aura. The, it’s, it’s, that’s what the young people say now. Uh, we said swag. It’s now aura. They give off this, they give off this aura, and you just know. Um, so when they’re showing you a bunch of things to prove to you, “No, I got money. I just need your money for ba, ba, ba,” you’ve already lost me.
[00:32:31] Because if you got money, why you need me to take out a loan?
Bruce Anthony: [00:32:34] Yeah. So he was, they were both arrested in Idaho. In Idaho. Um
Jay Aundrea: [00:32:42] And we ain’t even there. You know what I’m saying? Ain’t even nobody named D- well, Black people. Like,
Bruce Anthony: [00:32:49] There’s Black people in, uh, there’s Black people in Idaho. If you don’t remember the movie Moving, it was all about Richard Pryor and his family moving to Boise, Idaho. So we at least know
Jay Aundrea: [00:32:59] fictional
Bruce Anthony: [00:33:01] there’s Black… There’s gotta be Black people in Idaho. There, there… It’s an entire state. Um, but he was arrested.
[00:33:08] Him and Chan were arrested meeting more victims, so they weren’t done. Um, he’s being held without bond ‘cause he’s supposedly a s- uh, serious flight risk. Where Chan was released, uh, pending a trial ‘cause boy only 18 years old. That’s the thing that’d be killing me. I’m like, you… I’m 18. Uh, he was scamming me.
[00:33:29] He told me to play a role. I thought it was an acting gig. That— Look, if
Jay Aundrea: [00:33:33] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:33:34] Chan, I’d be throwing him under the
Jay Aundrea: [00:33:37] All the way. I still got my whole life ahead of me. You kidding me?
Bruce Anthony: [00:33:40] So you
The AI Overview Trap And Buying Your Way To A Fake Blue Check: 🤖✅😵
Bruce Anthony: [00:33:41] tore him a new one, but I, I gotta just say that we tell people to do the research all the time.
Jay Aundrea: [00:33:47] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:33:48] And a lot of people aren’t technologically savvy to realize that when they now do the Google search in Google
Jay Aundrea: [00:33:58] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:34:00] Even if you don’t click on AI mode, there’ll be an AI overview in the regular Google before you even get to the sources. So I don’t think people are aware of that, and, and they also aren’t aware that AI won’t give you all the right information.
[00:34:17] We’ve been screaming at the top of our lungs that AI doesn’t give you the right information. But not everybody, not everybody is technologically savvy as we are because we, we are— You’re definitely in that industry. I’m somewhat. I use AI a lot. I deal with it a lot, so I’m well-versed in and have been over the last four years.
[00:34:41] But a lot of people, this is all brand new to them. And so when they Google something, they just think, “Yeah, okay, I found the thing.” And, and they’re also not researchers, right? They’re not checking sources. They’re just like, “Google told me this.” Like, that’s what people say now. Like, “Look it up.” They don’t say look it up.
[00:35:01] They say Google it.
Jay Aundrea: [00:35:02] Just Google it. Yeah. Yeah. It’s definitely become part of the lexicon. But again, even when it shows like the AI answer, it’ll still over on the right show you the sources. And if those sources don’t look legit Keep scrolling
Bruce Anthony: [00:35:21] is legit though? Most people don’t know what’s legit and what’s not legit
Jay Aundrea: [00:35:25] Is the source nfl.com or is it Instagram?
Bruce Anthony: [00:35:30] But if the, he’s got an Instagram where, you know, he’s got a certain amount of followers.
Jay Aundrea: [00:35:35] That’s another thing. Yes, he’s got the blue check, but if you remember, Meta changed it where you can purchase the
Bruce Anthony: [00:35:44] You can purchase the blue
Jay Aundrea: [00:35:45] He’s got 6,800 followers
Bruce Anthony: [00:35:49] Oh, that was, that was it?
Jay Aundrea: [00:35:51] That was it. So that already lets me know, I don’t know a NFL player out there. I found the most random NFL player I could find, and he still had 30K
Bruce Anthony: [00:36:02] Yeah, because you gonna think that if it’s your team, if you love the Philadelphia Eagles, if you find a player on there that you like, you might start following him. And he might be obscure. He might be somebody that’s on the kickoff team, right? Uh, but you’d be like, “Oh, okay. Well, no, I kinda like him. You know, he, he works hard.
[00:36:20] Let me follow on Instagram.” So just from the fans alone, you should hit 10 to 20K
Jay Aundrea: [00:36:26] You should also have networks following you, like ESPN might be following you. Uh, you know, like any of those shows, they might be following you. Your team’s page typically follows you, right? Like, your teammates
Bruce Anthony: [00:36:46] But most pe-
Jay Aundrea: [00:36:47] will follow you. So
Bruce Anthony: [00:36:49] ego. It’s the ego. Like they’re not looking for these things
Jay Aundrea: [00:36:53] followers, I know that this is not a person who has been playing in the NFL
Bruce Anthony: [00:36:59] All right. I hear what you’re saying, and, and I’m not saying that what you’re saying doesn’t have validity. It does. But, but let me just give a different perspective.
Jay Aundrea: Okay
Bruce Anthony: [00:37:10] heard
Pig Butchering Explained: The Four Step Romance Scam Playbook
Bruce Anthony: [00:37:11] of pig butchering
Jay Aundrea: [00:37:14] Pig butchering. No. As a
Bruce Anthony: [00:37:18] uh, let me break it down for you. It is a translation of a Chinese phrase, shuzheng pan, and it’s the image is deliberately ugly. You fatten a pig up so you can slaughter it, right?
Jay Aundrea: [00:37:32] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:37:33] How does this relate to what my man Mr. Love was doing? So step one is not money, it’s the relationship. The scammer spends weeks or months being the perfect partner, building a real emotional trust.
[00:37:47] This is the fattening. So yes, you’re building up the ego. Th- the person has the ego, but they’re building up the ego by just their interaction. “Oh, you’re beautiful. I think about you all the time. I just got out of practice. You know what I’m saying? The first thing I wanted to do was text you. How you doing today?”
[00:38:04] “How you doing, baby? I’m gonna soak in the tub a little bit later ‘cause I’m sore from prac-” Like, this is the fattening, right?
Jay Aundrea: [00:38:11] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:38:12] Step two is the pivot. Once they get the trust, they introduce an investment, usually crypto or something else that they’re supposedly getting rich on, and that’s what he did. He was like, “Look,” he was driving around saying, “I got these properties, I got these investments.”
[00:38:30] He got his boy that’s his financial advisor on three-way talking about these gains that you’re getting, and everybody want to get rich quick. Everybody thinks that they could throw an investment and then flip it three times in two hours. That’s what everybody’s thinking. That does not exist. That’s not how money works
Jay Aundrea: [00:38:48] It does if you were talking about cocaine, but we’re not talking about
Bruce Anthony: [00:38:52] don’t even work that way with cocaine. It, it don’t. Not that quick. So it don’t, it don’t, okay? Not that I know. Not that I know.
Jay Aundrea: [00:39:01] Right.
Bruce Anthony: [00:39:02] But I know. Anyway,
Jay Aundrea: Sure,
Bruce Anthony: [00:39:04] step three is the hook. They show you the fake gains on a fake platform. So they put in a little, then they put in a lot. And, and then, and my man is telling them once again, they’re showing them these fake bank statements. They’re showing them these gains, all this type of stuff. This is pig butchering. Then there’s step four, and this is the actual slaughter.
[00:39:29] The moment you are tapped out and they start asking the question, the money, the person both begin to vanish, right? So then they got your money,
Jay Aundrea: [00:39:38] Yep
Bruce Anthony: [00:39:39] and then you’re like, “Wait a minute, where are my gains coming?” And then they ghost it. They blocked you. And that’s what happened in this situation. Two people complained.
[00:39:49] They was
The Romance Scam Boom And How To Actually Protect Your Pockets: 📈🚨💵
Bruce Anthony: [00:39:50] like, “Look, he done got me for this bread.” That’s how the indictments came down. That’s how he got arrested. So look, there’s a whole industry, and it’s funny because one of the areas is California and South Carolina. I mean, South Fr- N- not South Carolina, San Francisco and California. There’s a whole market of romance scams, and that they’re saying that $6.3 million is now the new number, right?
[00:40:19] It used to be $734,000 that people would get scammed in in maybe a year. It’s jumped up 900% over the last couple of years. Um, some of the victims have jumped up 80%. There’s been an account of nearly 80% of all romance scam theft in South Carolina. And that’s— I keep saying South Carolina. In San Francisco.
[00:40:41] In San Francisco and the surrounding area, Santa Clara, Santa Mona, uh, S- San M- San Mateo and Almedina, right? 80% rise in romance scam theft in the region in just 2025. So the point of this is this, you know, we making fun of Dijon Mustard love.
Jay Aundrea: [00:41:05] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:41:06] But the fact of the matter is he was in that area and saw it, and then was like, “I can do this.”
Jay Aundrea: [00:41:15] I can do this. I can go on NFL Fan Shop and get a replica helmet. I can go and use other people’s money to rent luxury cars and then pose in front of them for photos, and then hurry up and take them back within the hour because you pay by the hour. Um, can do all of these things and scam people, but a scam is a two-way street.
Bruce Anthony: [00:41:41] Yeah. I, I
Jay Aundrea: [00:41:42] gotta have a mark that will buy into it, and that we know of, there have been at least 26, and y’all just gotta be— Or maybe it’s just because I’m a naturally suspicious person. Like e- you remember during COVID, like there were all these like scams going around.
Bruce Anthony: [00:42:05] you’re in scam capital
Jay Aundrea: [00:42:06] I’m in the scam capital of the world, truly, in Atlanta, Georgia, but like there were all these like money scams, Ponzi schemes and stuff going around.
[00:42:16] I ain’t never put a dime in nothing. And I have friends telling me, “No, no, you make your money back,” and blah, blah, blah. I said, “Okay, friend. Okay. Not if you’re the last person on the list.”
Bruce Anthony: [00:42:28] Skepticism is one thing. You’re a cynic. Uh, that’s a completely different thing
Jay Aundrea: [00:42:31] trust, I don’t trust, I don’t trust, um, nah, I don’t trust nobody. No, especially if you asking me for my… I don’t— And also, I don’t even think crypto, Bitcoin, all that stuff, it’s not even real. First of all, money, money is not real,
Bruce Anthony: [00:42:45] uh, money is… Money, I don’t even know where you’re going with this now. This has gone off the rails. Where, money isn’t real?
Jay Aundrea: [00:42:51] but no, it’s— we made it up. We made up currency.
Bruce Anthony: [00:42:55] Okay. Yes, but it’s real though.
Jay Aundrea: [00:42:57] things and we made it up. And so all of this is made up. I don’t see how people making money through digital money… I don’t know what y’all are talking about, and it all
Bruce Anthony: [00:43:08] much do you know about crypto? Uh, uh, crypto,
Jay Aundrea: [00:43:12] nothing
Bruce Anthony: [00:43:13] crypto, one of my favorite podcast hosts, Bomani Jones, calls it funny money, crypto money, and I’ve never gotten involved with it. And every time people are like, “Man, you need to get into this crypto,” I’m like, “Seem like gambling to me.” ‘Cause the stock market is gambling to me.
[00:43:26] They’re like, “No, it’s not gambling.” I’m like, “Yes, it, it… If you play…”
Jay Aundrea: [00:43:30] just gambling with analytics
Bruce Anthony: [00:43:31] Right. W- w- uh, so is gambling. Gambling is gambling with analytics. It’s all analytics
Jay Aundrea: [00:43:37] I mean, you can’t go to the casino with your laptop
Bruce Anthony: [00:43:40] No, but you, but you know odds. You could card count. Yeah, you, I mean, you could do that type stuff.
Jay Aundrea: [00:43:46] but the stock market is just, it’s just gambling with better analytics
Bruce Anthony: [00:43:50] Yeah. Yeah, that’s all it is. But we done gone off on a tangent. Ladies and gentlemen, look, because it’s not just women getting scammed by men and men getting scammed by women and men getting scammed by men and women getting scammed by women and people getting scammed by people. It’s also old people are constantly getting scammed with all…
[00:44:08] Like, uh, look, it was a whole movie based off of The Beekeeper that me and my sisters just absolutely love.
Jay Aundrea: [00:44:13] Jason Statham
Bruce Anthony: [00:44:14] And Re- Phylicia Rashad. And let me tell you something, when Phylicia Rashad, spoiler alert, committed suicide ‘cause she had got scammed out of her money, we wanted The Beekeeper to get
Jay Aundrea: [00:44:27] yeah, I just knew the Beekeeper was gonna equalize.
Bruce Anthony: [00:44:30] was gonna equalize.
[00:44:31] And th- scams are happening all over the place. So what are some things that you could do to make sure, or at least attempt to make sure that you gonna get scammed? All right. Never send money to someone you have only met online
Jay Aundrea: [00:44:45] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:44:47] That’s, that’s a key one.
Jay Aundrea: Step one
Bruce Anthony: [00:44:49] That’s a key one. Reverse image search the profile photo before you trust it.
[00:44:56] I’m king on reverse imo- uh, uh, image search. During the pandemic, I was on all these dating apps. I was like, “This profile seem like it’s fake.
Jay Aundrea: [00:45:05] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:45:06] Let me go ahead and reverse image search.” Sure enough, I’d be seeing it in different names all over the place. I was like, “You ain’t gonna catfish me. I done seen that show too many times.”
Jay Aundrea: [00:45:15] Yeah, I done seen every season. You ain’t gonna get me. You
Bruce Anthony: [00:45:20] it tripped me out when a catfish don’t be a catfish, and this happened a couple times on that episode on the
Jay Aundrea: [00:45:26] very strange, but yeah. But like, no, you, you’re not gonna get me
Bruce Anthony: [00:45:31] yeah, and here’s a final one, and this backs up what you’ve been saying this entire segment. Treat an AI answer as a starting point. Click through to get to the real sources.
Jay Aundrea: Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:45:45] Ladies and gentlemen, I cannot stress it enough. Do research,
Jay Aundrea: [00:45:49] Yes
Bruce Anthony: [00:45:50] please. Please do some research
Jay Aundrea: [00:45:53] Please care more about your pockets than y’all do.
Bruce Anthony: [00:45:56] Mm.
Jay Aundrea: [00:45:57] S- stop clicking them links. Stop, stop— Look, somebody in your DMs and that it seems like it’s your friend, it’s not. Just text your friend and see if it’s actually them. Like, that’s happened, and we, we actually played with that scammer for a little bit.
Bruce Anthony: [00:46:13] We did, yeah.
Jay Aundrea: [00:46:14] was fun. But like, come on y’all, y’all got to be a little bit more discerning. I’m not saying you gotta be like me and be a complete cynic. That, I, I’m not saying that.
Bruce Anthony: [00:46:24] But be skeptical.
Jay Aundrea: [00:46:25] be skeptical at least.
Bruce Anthony: [00:46:29] A cynic believes everything is always a lie. A skeptical asks the question, “Is this a lie?”
Jay Aundrea: [00:46:37] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:46:38] then follows through. That’s the difference, so please, at least be a skeptic in life
Jay Aundrea: [00:46:43] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:46:44] What if you were so confident in your ability to commit fraud that you started selling a class on how to do it? Samari Brooks is a 34-year-old man from Stone Mountain, Georgia. He also rapped under the name Junie Notts, and on August 27th, 2026, he was sentenced to six years in federal prison for bank r- fraud and agitated identity theft.
Jay Aundrea: [00:47:17] Not agitated?
Bruce Anthony: [00:47:18] Yeah, aggravated identity theft. Excuse me.
Jay Aundrea: [00:47:22] You know what? It was agitated too.
Bruce Anthony: [00:47:25] Look, I’m agitated to all these scammers. But check it out, that’s not even the crazy part. Prosecutors say Brooks was stealing checks out of the mail, altering them, and then trying to run them through other people’s banks, bank accounts. That’s just one layer of the story. Here’s the second layer. He allegedly turned the whole thing into a business.
[00:47:43] He was selling online tutorials teaching other people how to commit financial fraud. So basically, like, I’m a criminal, and I’m gonna show you how to be a criminal
The Rapper Who Sold Tutorials For Fraud That Never Once Worked: 🎤📘🤦
Bruce Anthony: too.
Jay Aundrea: [00:47:53] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:47:54] Except there’s just one problem. His scams apparently didn’t work. Prosecutors say he never successfully passed the checks. Law enforcement found a bunch of them still sitting inside of his house, and there’s no evidence that any victims actually lost money.
[00:48:10] So, uh, let me make it, paint a clear picture. He allegedly tried to commit fraud, couldn’t get the fraud to work, and then started selling tutorials teaching people how to do the fraud. That’s not a
Jay Aundrea: [00:48:25] the real scam.
Bruce Anthony: [00:48:26] Yeah,
Jay Aundrea: real scam
Bruce Anthony: [00:48:27] that’s not a mastermind. That’s a failed criminal entrepreneur. And prosecutors basically said his boldness was only matched by his ineptitude. So Brooks pled guilty, so unlike some of the other stories
Jay Aundrea: [00:48:44] got no choice. They found all the checks.
Bruce Anthony: [00:48:46] they found all the checks. This isn’t an allegation. Uh, he got six years, like I said earlier, in federal prison, and apparently, the only thing he successfully passed was getting caught. So another scammer that wasn’t successful, but he was selling stuff.
[00:49:03] Uh, and this ain’t far from you.
Jay Aundrea: [00:49:06] No,
Atlanta, Scam Capital: Fake Pay Stubs And One In Three People
Jay Aundrea: [00:49:07] it’s not. Well, Stone Mountain ain’t close. If anybody knows, uh, Atlanta, Stone Mountain ain’t close, but it’s close enough that I n- listen, Atlanta is the, is the scamming capital of the world. I believe that. I believe one in three people, this is a statistic I completely made up right now on the spot, but one in three people in this, in this city is scamming.
[00:49:30] Uh, and that is what I 100% feel, because sometimes I see people in these luxury high li- high-rises and they ain’t been to work, uh, I ain’t seen them go to work, uh, not one day, and I’m just wondering
Bruce Anthony: [00:49:45] How
Jay Aundrea: [00:49:46] how? Because you gotta submit, uh, uh, uh, um, what is it? Like your income.
Bruce Anthony: [00:49:52] Yeah. Sometimes, sometimes they just go by your credit score
Jay Aundrea: [00:49:56] In Atlanta, you gotta submit your income to get an apartment.
[00:50:00] And so there are people that got scams to get you fake pay stubs.
Bruce Anthony: [00:50:05] Yeah. Well, that’s not really even difficult
Jay Aundrea: [00:50:07] no, it’s not. It’s literally just, you know, Microsoft Word
Bruce Anthony: [00:50:12] Uh, a little bit more, little bit more intricate than Microsoft Word. But with AI, you could create a, you could create a fake pay stub very easily. The only thing is, is like you gotta have like a, a real company. The company has to at least exist, right? Before you can, uh, could do a pay stub. And so I didn’t know that was a scam, uh, that, uh, people were, were doing.
[00:50:35] Hmm,
Selling The Dream: The Scam Was Always The Book Itself All Along
Jay Aundrea: [00:50:36] This is a lot of scams down here, so this does not surprise me. What does surprise me is that you’re trying to make money telling people how to do scams that you have never done successfully. And what it reminds me of is remember when we were young and there would be them infomercials of people, of these guys living this luxurious life, and you can too if you buy my book and it’s a Ponzi scheme or something like that.
[00:51:02] It’s the same thing. You wanna be rich, get rich like me and do this, and this— I’m getting rich off of selling you the books, chump, because you ‘Cause that’s the ultimate scam. The scam was the book.
Bruce Anthony: [00:51:19] Yes.
Jay Aundrea: [00:51:21] Yes
Bruce Anthony: [00:51:22] Uh, he has— My thing is it’s been documented that he’s been doing this from January 2022. So as soon as we got out the pandemic, he, he probably got himself a PPP
Jay Aundrea: [00:51:34] was prime time. Like pandemic really scamming in Atlanta exploded during the pandemic and them PPP loans, boy, it exploded. And so now it’s really a art like, and, uh, I’ve seen some people do it quite well, honestly, and like, especially like scamming the government, and I seen people get tens of thousands back from taxes and like different thing.
[00:52:05] I’m like, “Dang, how y’all do that?” Oh, I got a person. Well, hook, hook me up. I don’t want it.
Bruce Anthony: [00:52:11] no. I d- yeah, don’t do it. That was the first
Jay Aundrea: [00:52:14] audit. Nope, I— your girl, your girl will do— I’ve done my own taxes my whole life, and I’m gonna keep on doing my own
Bruce Anthony: [00:52:23] Well, I think now
Jay Aundrea: [00:52:24] not gon’-
Bruce Anthony: [00:52:25] I, I would say this. We asked the question at the top, everybody is scamming, should we? No. No. I
Jay Aundrea: [00:52:33] ‘cause I’m not, I’m not going to federal prison.
Bruce Anthony: [00:52:36] So but my
Stolen Checks, Fake Accounts And 6.5 Million That Never Cleared: 🏦💵❌
Bruce Anthony: [00:52:37] man did this from January 2022 through November 2025, right? So he would take the stolen checks from the mail, then he used social media to recruit people with existing bank accounts to act as deposit accounts, and he would alter the stolen checks to make these, uh, to, with the account holders, right?
[00:52:56] Um, and then he would go and deposit them throughout different ATMs in the me- in the Atlanta metro area. And he had a, a, a calling card basically because he wore a certain mask,
Jay Aundrea: Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:53:13] and on that mask it read, “No free sauce,” why he was making these deposits. Now the combined face value for all the stolen checks was $6.5 million, right?
[00:53:24] So but I said something at the top, that it didn’t actually work.
Jay Aundrea: [00:53:29] didn’t work.
Bruce Anthony: [00:53:30] It didn’t work. So he would deposit these checks, but he wasn’t withdrawing no money out because these checks weren’t clearing.
Jay Aundrea: [00:53:38] Yeah. Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:53:40] doing fraud for three years, but not really doing fraud
Jay Aundrea: [00:53:44] Not really doing fraud. And it, and it honestly is like, okay, once you tried it the first time… ‘Cause here’s the thing, you can’t just deposit a check and it just, the money appear. The bank gotta verify it
Bruce Anthony: [00:53:55] Yes.
Jay Aundrea: [00:53:57] So you can’t just change the payee and think, ” Oh, this is, this, this is gonna work.” It’s not gonna work.
[00:54:05] And it didn’t work for three years.
Bruce Anthony: [00:54:11] But I bet you he made the money off the tutorials
Jay Aundrea: [00:54:14] I bet you he definitely, definitely, definitely did because the fact that I could ask someone here in Atlanta, “Do y’all know what Sauce books are?” And they’d be like, “Oh yeah, you talking about Junie Notts, them books on scamming?” That’s crazy work, and that also lets me know he made some money off them books.
Bruce Anthony: Uh-huh.
Jay Aundrea: [00:54:36] For sure
Bruce Anthony: [00:54:37] and that he was semi-popular doing it. Um, look, I… The fir- in the last segment, the John Love was actually scamming. He got $1.3 million, right? This $6.5 million figure is what they could have gotten, is what all the checks amounted to, but he ain’t get a dime.
Jay Aundrea: [00:55:02] Not
[00:55:03] one single
Bruce Anthony: [00:55:04] not a single solitary cent. So is it really scamming?
Jay Aundrea: [00:55:10] Here’s the thing. I— Okay, he failed at that, but he was successful selling the books, his music, his merch, all of that. He made money. He just didn’t get that 6.5 mil
Bruce Anthony: [00:55:26] So,
The Double Fraud: Selling The Image Of A Successful Scammer
Bruce Anthony: [00:55:27] so if you’ve been doing it for three years and you ain’t getting not a dime, but you’re starting to get money perpetrating the fraud that you are a scammer, why not just stop breaking the law that you’re not getting any money from and just lie to the pe- We’re used to rappers lying.
Jay Aundrea: [00:55:45] Yes.
Bruce Anthony: [00:55:49] You ain’t got to falsify checks
Jay Aundrea: [00:55:51] plenty, uh, there are plenty of rappers who lived a regular, normal life that rap about being in the game and being thugs and killers, and we like, you grew up on a, on a street called Shady Oaks Lane. That lets me know that it was a nice little suburb. Like, please, you perpetrate. Yeah, like I would’ve just leaned in to the double fraud, which is what it is.
[00:56:17] You pretended— You’re fraudulently pretending to be a fraudster. It’s a double fraud. So I would’ve just leaned into the double fraud and sold the books and the merch. Why kee- ‘cause, like, you know what it was? The prosecutor said it. He’s inept. He thought it would work at least once. It—
Bruce Anthony: [00:56:37] Over three years?
Jay Aundrea: [00:56:39] was gonna keep on trying.
[00:56:40] Hey, we’ve been doing this podcast for three years. It’s gonna work. It’s called consistency. You gotta be consistent.
Bruce Anthony: [00:56:51] Or, or insanity.
Jay Aundrea: [00:56:55] Or insanity, one or the other. The purpose, the point is you consistent either way. It’s about consistency. Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [00:57:04] uh, ah, if, if, uh, uh, I, I get what you’re saying with the comparison with the podcast. That’s a funny, that’s a funny analogy. However, we have grown. We have seen some benefits from doing the
Jay Aundrea: [00:57:16] So did he and them books
Bruce Anthony: [00:57:18] but not from the actual altering of the checks. So just stop altering the check. Why keep going for three years?
[00:57:27] Why? Eventually…
Jay Aundrea: why
Bruce Anthony: [00:57:28] And why?
Jay Aundrea: [00:57:30] Why keep do- Listen, it’s the same
Bruce Anthony: [00:57:34] No, it’s not the same thing. And why draw attention? Why, if you gonna commit fraud,
Jay Aundrea: [00:57:40] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:57:41] why, if you are breaking the law, are you gonna have a signature with a certain mask every single time talking about free sauce? I, I don’t even know… No free sauce. I don’t even know what that means.
[00:57:56] That’s a young people saying? What does that mean?
Jay Aundrea: [00:57:58] I don’t know what it means. Um, we can look at a, a, an urban dictionary, but I don’t know what that means. But the thing of, the thing of it is, is like he— It’s, it’s the image, right? He was selling the image of doing fraud and committing fraud, even though he was a fraud at being a fraud, double fraud. Like he was selling the image and he was profiting off of that image.
[00:58:24] Now, could he have stopped doing the actual fraud? Well, at this point he already started and so like regardless— But I mean, like the first time he did it, you was— you gonna go down if they catch you, right? So you might as well keep being consistent
Bruce Anthony: [00:58:41] There is a statute of limitations on certain crimes. Had he stopped the first year, I don’t know what the statute of limitations are. They typically run five, 10, 15 years, right? Had he just not do- had he just stopped after the first time, like, “Oh, this didn’t work,” I would be to… My heart rate would be through the roof every time I deposited one of them checks.
[00:59:04] ‘Cause eventually, you going around the metro area, who’s to say that he was using different banks? Who’s to say?
Jay Aundrea: [00:59:11] d- no, I guarantee this dumb dumb was using the same four or five ATMs
Bruce Anthony: [00:59:15] P- he was using PNC and Capital One everywhere. Everywhere he went PNC and Capital One. I, I understand the, the scam that he was running after the fact, right? Our, our president and that’s in the United States Oval Office right now
Jay Aundrea: [00:59:31] Mm-hmm.
Bruce Anthony: [00:59:32] running
Jay Aundrea: [00:59:34] They’re running the same scam. Yes
Bruce Anthony: [00:59:36] type of scam. Say, say they something, sell you on something, they not that, but you
Jay Aundrea: [00:59:39] Did anybody get they phones? They little gold
Bruce Anthony: [00:59:42] They, uh, I, they did start to… After he made that trip to China
Jay Aundrea: [00:59:46] Yeah.
Bruce Anthony: [00:59:47] ‘cause,
Jay Aundrea: [00:59:48] So they’re non-American made gold phones?
Bruce Anthony: [00:59:52] they changed it. They said it was gonna be American-made, and it was inspired by America.
[00:59:58] But anyway, scamming. Just stick to the scam that’s actually working
Jay Aundrea: [01:00:04] Yeah
Bruce Anthony: [01:00:05] because that, it wasn’t— That is legal. What he was doing, I think, were
Jay Aundrea: [01:00:11] I don’t think so. You can’t just release tutorials on how to commit crimes. I feel like that’s not legal
Bruce Anthony: [01:00:23] I don’t know. You could say that’s artistic freedom. That might be under f- uh, the First Amendment, the freedom of
Jay Aundrea: [01:00:30] that might be protected? I
Bruce Anthony: [01:00:31] might be, I’ve gotta have to talk to my lawyer friends
Jay Aundrea: [01:00:34] Yeah, there’s a lot of caveats to that. Like you can’t like incite violence with your speech. You can’t do… So like I, this
Bruce Anthony: [01:00:41] don’t think this is just citing violence though. This is, this is,
Jay Aundrea: [01:00:43] But like there’s caveats
Bruce Anthony: Yeah, true,
Jay Aundrea: [01:00:45] the First Amendment, so there might be a caveat for if your speech in some way in- incites or facilitates people doing crimes, you might not be able to do that.
[01:00:59] But I mean, if he sold the books as fiction,
Bruce Anthony: [01:01:03] There you go
Jay Aundrea: [01:01:04] you know, or so- hey, hey.
Bruce Anthony: [01:01:06] See, that’s a scam. Not this inept scam that he was doing. Well, okay, look, basically the hit song is Where All My Scammers At. They here. They here.
Jay Aundrea: [01:01:18] here. They’re in Atlanta.
Bruce Anthony: [01:01:19] y’all was asking for them.
Jay Aundrea: Yeah,
Bruce Anthony: [01:01:21] Be careful what you ask for ‘cause you was singing that song and you can get scammed out your money like my man Dijon Love, and I’m sure Junie not scammed some other people out of, out of they money as well.
[01:01:34] I, I, yeah, I know he probably
Jay Aundrea: [01:01:35] who bought anything he was selling got scammed because he’s a double fraudster
Bruce Anthony: [01:01:41] Jay, what do you want to leave these people with?
Jay Aundrea: [01:01:44] Look, if you’re looking for the scammers and the, and the, and the girls, uh, stuffing that in they bag, okay? The boosting ones, they here in the Atlanta metro area. Uh, you could throw a rock and find them. Again, that made up statistic, one in three people is out here in the metro Atlanta area scamming. Made it up off the top of my head, but I’m pretty sure it’s probably close
Bruce Anthony: [01:02:15] Oh my
Jay Aundrea: [01:02:16] W-watch your neck when you come down here. Guard your wallet. Okay? And don’t trust a QR code, even if it looks like it’s the QR code you need to park. It’s a scam.
Bruce Anthony: [01:02:30] Oh
The Real Lesson: It’s Not About Scams, It’s All About Evidence
Bruce Anthony: [01:02:33] my goodness. For me, I wanna bring this all back around for a second, because on the surface, these two stories don’t really have much in common as far as the s- actual scams are concerned. Dejon Love allegedly created a fake life, fake football career, fake money, fake investments, and allegedly used the internet and AI to make that lie look legitimate.
[01:02:55] Shamari Brooks, not allegedly, built a whole business around the appearance that he knew how to commit fraud, even though prosecutors say the actual check scheme never produced a known financial loss to any victims or financial gain to his pockets.
Jay Aundrea: [01:03:13] The more
Bruce Anthony: [01:03:14] the more I thought about these stories, the more I realized this isn’t really about scams.
Jay Aundrea: [01:03:18] they adopted
Bruce Anthony: [01:03:19] It’s about evidence. Because people have always lied. That’s nothing new. What’s new is how easy it is to build an entire world around the lie. A picture can be fake, a video can be fake, a social media profile can be fake, and now apparently even the thing you use to fact-check somebody can give you the wrong answer with complete confidence.
[01:03:42] That’s what’s happening here. The women didn’t just take this man’s word for it. They searched for him, and the machine allegedly gave them confirmation that what they were looking for was exactly what he was saying that he was. The thing that he used to verify the lie actually became part of the lie.
[01:04:01] And that’s bigger than AI, because we’re entering a world where the appearance of proof can be manufactured just as easily as the lie itself. So I don’t think the answer is to stop believing everything. That’s not skepticism, that’s cynicism. That’s my sister. I’m more of a skeptic. I think the answer is learning to slow down.
[01:04:23] Ask where something came from. Find the original source. Ask who benefits if you believe it. And maybe, most importantly, ask what would prove you wrong? Because if you’re going to live in a world where seeing it isn’t necessarily believing, searching isn’t necessarily verifying, and evidence isn’t necessarily evidence, then we can’t outsource our judgment. The technology is only going to get better at creating convincing realities, so we have to get better at questioning them because here’s the uncomfortable part people don’t want to talk about. We’re not just entering a world where people can lie to us.
[01:05:00] We’re entering a world where they can make the evidence look like it’s telling the truth, and that’s a whole different game, and we need to pay close attention to it. Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank you for listening. I want to thank you for watching, and until next time, as always, I’ll holla
